How to stop a goddamn oil tanker
6-8 pm Tuesday, May 22 - Camas Books, 2590 Quadra Street, Lekwungen territory (Victoria)
An interactive workshop with Zoe Blunt on grassroots strategies to shut down tar
sands tankers and pipelines. Open to all who share the determination to help defend our coast.
This is a "Campaign 101" workshop. Together we will identify what makes a movement - allies, targets, strategies, tactics, short and long-term goals. Plus an introduction to meta-tactics like back-casting and pre-figuring.
Coming soon:
CHOKEPOINT 2: Unity, Diversity and Affinity.
CHOKEPOINT 3: Direct action gets the goods.
Petition to Vancity: Divest from Enbridge!
Vancity members: tell your "socially-responsible" credit union to dump its mutual-fund stocks in Enbridge or face a backlash from its own shareholders. Read the whole story.

Wild Coast Weekends
Overnight trips to the forest for surveying, watershed mapping, canopy research, plant identification, geology studies, trail building, forestry monitoring, and more. New volunteers welcome!
VIC FAN's work is driven by the needs and demands of the people most closely connected to the land. Please consider hosting a community meeting to discuss threats to drinking watersheds, salmon stocks, wildlife, and biodiversity. Your advice, opinions and suggestions help us decide where we conduct our research. Support for outfitting our field camps and transporting volunteers is also needed. Small honourariums are available to volunteers, First Nations people, and local experts who take time to join us on these expeditions and help us with our work.
Volunteers are always welcome to join us, regardless of your level of ecological knowledge. A love of the land is essential.

Where we stand
Students and community groups are working together for a new land-use vision on the south coast of Vancouver Island. The community mapping project focuses on the public's interest in preserving forestlands, rivers, and creeks. From Sooke to Port Renfrew and beyond, residents and visitors can witness the far-reaching effects of logging and development on ecosystems, water, and wildlife. We need your support to defend the places we love.
Big thanks to Mountain Equipment Coop and Freedonia Cooperation for supporting this work.
